2024 Reading List: Discover the Best Books and Recommendations (Updated Nov-24)

Here, I am compiling a list of all the books I have read in the year 2024 along with my thoughts and recommendations. I will keep it updated as I read more.

Will keep it updated as I read more.

1) “Doglapan” by Ashneer Grover

What is it about?

The life story of famed (or notorious) shark, and BharatPe founder, Ashneer Grover.

Remarks

His life teaches us how to maintain connections. He has been extremely fortunate in having influential people around him and possesses enough skills to utilize them effectively. However, his narrative of what has happened at BharatPe appears flawed. While I’m not privy to the internal matters, one can’t play the victim forever. There is something called Karma!

2) “Revisiting the Educational Heritage of India” by Sahana Singh

What is it about?

Talks about the brighter side of ancient Indian education system and it’s fall in last 1000 years.

Remarks

The book presents the data and facts but lacks anecdotes. Could have been better but a good read for the one who are unaware how India had lead the knowledge era, globally.

3) “Sahitya ane Cinema” (Literature and Cinema) by Jay Vasavda

What is it about?

It’s a compilation of his articles on these topics published in his column in Gujarat Samachar.

Remarks:

The book initially caught my interest, but it waned as the articles are dated, being almost 20-25 years old. Many of the topics discussed have lost their relevance.

4) “Ramayan – Manavata nu Mahakavya” by Gunvant Shah

What is it about?

A 790 page long compilation of Ramayan.

Remarks:

Shree Gunvantbhai has put tremendous effort to present us this version of Ramayan. Should read if you are a literary fan. I have written a detailed book review for this book.

5) Hit Refresh by Satya Nadella

What is it about?

Journey of present Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella

Remarks:

This book has personally helped me channelizing my peace time. Has taught me how to ask right questions to guide the self and others. Three important lessons from this book are:

1) Traveling, charting new territories and meeting new people helps in finding your purpose.
2) Asking right questions to know your real soul is important.
3) Technology changes future. Never under any circumstances, leave the hand of technology and science.

6) Switch by Chip & Dan Heath

What is it about?

Systematic process for driving change in any organization, starting from family to nation.

Remarks

Change is not an event, but a process.

Chip and Dan Heath not only proves this statement but also explain a detailed framework to bring change, backed by several useful examples and case studies.

Change, be it organizational, social, political or in your own family, is an essential part of life that most of the people struggle with, the one who wants to bring the change, and the one who is at the receiving end.

But the Heaths explain the process so well that you realize and get to know the mistakes you did when tried to bring a change last time. And the book equips you to address the change you want to bring next.

I personally feel I should have read this book earlier. But it’s never late to learn.

Highly recommended.

7) Harsh Realities by Harsh Mariwala

What is it about?

Complete journey of Marico, the consumer brand Harsh has built.

Remarks:

The book presents some really interesting cases of innovation and business challenges. Specially the cases of packaging bottle and hostile acquisition attempt by HUL share a lot of learning for entrepreneurs and managers.

8) Narad Bhakti Sutra

What is it about?

The book is a collection of verses on Bhakti, given by Maharshi Narad

Remarks:

Useful read if you have scholarly interest in Hindu religion and various practices proposed to reach to the path of divinity.

Other books I have read in this year are

  1. Siblings without rivalry by Adele Faber & Elaine Mazlish
